CONTENT – How do I update my website with all my information?

Everyone’s needs for a website are different, and I am dedicated to making sure you get the personal attention you and your site deserve.  TLelyo Web Design specializes in creating high quality, easy to maintain websites using the WordPress Content Management System.  What this means is that you can rest assured that you are joining the millions people across the web using WordPress as their method of entering “content” into their blogs/websites.  This means, if you ever have a question, while you can always call Tom, you can rest assured your answer could be as close as your next “Google” or “YouTube” search as well.

STYLE/DESIGN – What will my site look like?

While WordPress provides the CMS (content management), your content has to look appealing too.  For this, I use Studio Press & Elegant Themes WordPress design templates.  Each of these is available through TLelyo Web Design and 100% customizable, from backgrounds, to colors, to fonts, etc!  This saves both you and me time in all the “coding” and “layout” work necessary for designing a website.  It provides a solid “foundation” from which you can build your unique presence on the internet.

WEB ADDRESS  - Where can I find my site on the web?

There are two elements with regards to “where” your website is found in cyberspace.  The first part is the “parking space”.  I consider the “DOMAIN NAME” your parking space on the internet.  Your domain name is setup through a “registrar” like “GoDaddy.com” or “Enomcentral.com”, etc.  The second part of your web address is where the actual “content” is stored or hosted.  I.E. this is called your web “host”.  I use Host Gator as my primary web “host” and “registrar”.  If you already have a host and registrar set up I can still work with that, however depending on what is needed in “updating” your old site to your new one, there may be extra fees involved.  Typically a domain name will cost between $10-$15, and your hosting will be between $5-$10 per month depending on our much storage and bandwidth you need.

 

The nice thing about working with TLelyo Web Design is that all the domain name and hosting “stuff” is done “in house”, so you only have to talk to me about all your website needs and not coordinate between 3 or more different services.

So how do I get started?

Well, assuming you’ll give me a call, here’s a few steps you can take on your own to help you get ahead!

First, commit to the idea of building and maintaining a website.  There’s a lot of power in having your own spot on the web, but as Uncle Ben from Spiderman said, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” Have a “plan of attack” in mind in terms of how long you want it to take to design and build the website.  How you want to “launch” your site to the public.  And most importantly, who is going to be updating the site on a regular basis to make sure the content stays “fresh!”

Next, find a few websites you like and “bookmark them”.  This gives both you and me an idea of the look and feel of your future site.  Also go to Studio Press.com or Elegant Themes and browse their templates since this is what I will be using as a “starting off point”. (Remember EVERYTHING is customizable on these templates!)

Also keep in mind different “functions” you want your website to be able to do.  (YouTube videos, downloadable podcasts, social media integration – facebook, twitter, etc, slideshows, online payment, etc)

After you have a pretty good idea of what you’re looking for, start collaborating with me on building your design.

COST & MORE DETAILS

Every website is different and requires a different approach to it. That being said, it is our goal to provide a high quality site for your church, ministry, or group at an affordable rate. Since this is not my primary source of income there is flexibility in price. (This also means there is flexibility in my schedule). Plan on setting aside about a month’s worth of time and revisions to have your site perfected and ready to be unveiled. Depending on my schedule this can be shortened to as little as two weeks!  While the best way to get an exact quote is to contact me, (since we want to make sure your site doesn’t break your budget) here are some ballpark figures:

  • $15 annually for the domain name registration
  • $9 per month for the hosting fee (preferably paid annually  = $110)
  • $700-$1,000 one time charge for time & labor depending on the complexity of the project
  • Total 1st year cost = $825-$1,125, subsequent yearly costs = $125

I am committed to making sure your site is up and running & you are comfortable using it.  That’s why you get 1 year of total customer service and techincal support from me included with your site.  If you’d like me to continue to be available for technical support it only costs $75 a year!  If you’d like me to be your “webmaster” and update your sites content regularly I’d be happy to speak with you to negotiate a fair cost.

DON’T FORGET One of the most important aspects of having your own website is your ability to update the content YOURSELF.
